Program Background:

The goal of the Town’s annual roads program is to recommend adequate investment in the Town’s 107 mile roadway network to ensure the network does not deteriorate to a point which would result in more costly periodic repairs.  Utility improvement opportunities are also identified and implemented within the roads program when appropriate. This can include drainage replacements or enhancements, water main and sewer main replacements and/or private utility expansions from National Grid (gas main), Verizon (Broadband internet/cable), etc.

Project Overview:

Sudbury Road is part of the 2017 Roads Program bid, which is valued at approximately $1,000,000.00. The project is scheduled to reconstruct 5.4 miles of roadway, reconstruct drainage as needed, and other incidental work.

Sudbury Road Scope of Work

Scope of Work:

This phase of the 2017 Roads Program will begin in the spring/summer of 2017.  In this phase, a portion of Sudbury Road is scheduled to receive roadway and drainage improvements. These improvements include the installation of new drainage infrastructure, and a mill and overlay pavement treatment. Following the installation of the drainage infrastructure, the trenches will be patched before winter shut-down and subjected to one freeze/thaw cycle. This will allow for any repairs to be made of imperfections that present themselves. The final improvements which include the mill and overlay pavement treatment, line striping, loam and seeding disturbed roadway shoulders, blending driveway transitions (if necessary), and final clean-up will recommence during the 2018 construction season.

Update 10/17/2017:

Sudbury Rd – Road Reconstruction- 10/18/17

Please be advised that the sub-contractor for the Roads Program, Fenton and Sons, will be performing drainage work on Wednesday (10/18) along Sudbury Rd from Fitchburg Turnpike to the Town line. The work is expected to take two weeks to complete. Following the installation of the drainage, the roadway will be patched for the winter. The remaining road work will recommence in the spring. The traffic will be restricted to alternating lanes. The roadway will be fully operational throughout the day. Traffic interruptions will be minimal. Please proceed with caution through the work zone. Expect localized delays during the day and seek alternate routes, if possible.
